Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our charters.

Not seeing your question? Call or text the captain — happy to talk it through.

What's the deposit and cancellation policy?

A 25% deposit secures your date. Cancellations made more than 7 days prior receive a full deposit refund. Within 3 days of the trip, the deposit is forfeit. Day-of cancellations are responsible for the full trip balance. Deposits are refunded if the captain cancels for unsafe weather. Rescheduling is available at the captain's discretion.

Do I need a Texas fishing license?

Yes — every angler 17 and older on the boat needs a valid Texas saltwater fishing license. Licenses are easy to grab online at tpwd.texas.gov or at most local sporting goods stores in the area.

What's included in the charter price?

USCG-licensed captain, the 23' Majek bay boat with all fuel, rods/reels/tackle, fresh live bait, ice chest with bottled water, fish cleaning and bagging, and hands-on instruction. Not included: Texas fishing license, food/drink for your group, and gratuity for the captain.

What if the weather is bad?

Safety first. If the captain calls the trip for unsafe weather (storms, dangerous wind, etc.), your deposit is fully refunded — or we'll reschedule for a date that works. If conditions are workable, we go fish. Texas weather changes fast and we'd rather be on the water than overthink it.

Are gratuities expected?

Tips aren't required but are always appreciated and go directly to the captain. A typical gratuity for a great day on the water is 15–20% of the trip price.

Can I keep my catch?

Absolutely — within Texas legal limits and seasonal regulations. We'll clean and bag everything before you head home. Catch-and-release is always welcome too if that's your preference.

How many anglers can you take?

The 23' Majek bay boat comfortably runs up to 5 anglers on standard trips. Tournament trips are capped at 4. Each package lists the included angler count and per-person add-on rates.

Is this trip kid-friendly?

Yes — Stay Salty Charters is built around family-friendly fishing. Captain Charles is patient with beginners and young anglers, and the half-day trips are sized perfectly for kids' attention spans.

What species can I expect to target?

Depending on the season and conditions, anglers may target redfish, speckled trout, black drum, sheepshead, flounder, and occasional sharks and other seasonal species.

Can you accommodate tournaments?

Yes — our Full Day Tournament Fishing Trip is built for serious anglers and tournament teams looking to compete or pre-fish with a local captain who knows the Port Aransas fishery and seasonal patterns. Up to 4 anglers, $1,400.
